Planning Commission present: Harold Badger (Chair), Sally Jackson (Vice Chair), Scott Frederick, Rick Offerson, Peggy Vogt

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Agenda A motion to accept the presented agenda was made by Frederick; seconded by Offerson. Motion passed unanimously.
Minutes: A motion was made by Offerson; seconded by Jackson, to approve the minutes of the June 1, 2023, meeting as presented. Motion passed unanimously.

Correspondence: None
Reports: Township Board - Frederick reported that (1) he and Supervisor Porter met with Calhoun County Road Department and offered suggestions for roads in the township that needed repairs; (2) Badger, Porter and Frederick were invited to attend a Homer Township Planning Commission meeting to offer information re: Sheridan Township's experience with solar energy planning; (3) as a result of a grant, there will be an addition to the fire department building. One truck bay, a recreation room, rest room and training room will be added to the south side of the building.
Zoning Administrator - Martin presented a list of the permits recently issued* along with a verbal update on violations currently being processed.
Zoning Board of Appeals - Badger reported that DG Market's request to construct a building south of the current Albion Motors building has been approved.
New Business: The Andersons have plans for an addition to their ethanol plant. This will house two new fermentation tanks and require a change in their current parking lot configuration. After discussion, it was determined to table this request until further information is received.
Solar - Savion is now known as AES. Information was distributed re: proposed changes/amendments to the current Zoning Ordinance as it pertains to Solar Energy.* Badger asked that Commissioners review the current Ordinance and the proposed changes and bring suggestions to the next meeting. Areas of concern are fencing, metal posts and weed control, keeping in mind that if changes are made, these discussions should include property owners, Planning Commission and AES. There is also concern re: spacing between panels to accommodate fire fighting equipment.
Campers & Trailers - Discussion re: temporary vs. long term residences for campers addressing electrical, water and sewage issues.
Rusty Smith announced that after 22 years with the Sheridan Township Fire Department, he is retiring. The Commissioners thanked him for his service and wished him well in his retirement.
Adjournment: A motion was made by Vogt; seconded by Offerson, to adjourn the meeting. Motion passed unanimously and the meeting was adjourned at 9:05 p.m.
