Sheridan Township Hall
January 30, 2025- 7:00 p.m.
Purpose: Public Hearing notices were published in the Albion Recorder and Township website.
Planning Commission present: Rick Offerson (Chair), Sally Jackson (Vice Chair), Scott Frederick, Chip Hanlon, Janet Cuatt
Staff: David Martin (Zoning Administrator), Doug Lewan Zoom (Carlisle-Wortman Associates)
Guests: Ella Hackett, Grady Friss, representing Ranger Power.
1. The Public Hearing was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.
2. Call to Order, Roll Call of Members
3. Approval of Agenda – Frederick requested to add discussion of the Master Plan to the agenda as New Business. Frederick made the motion; seconded by Jackson to approve the agenda with the addition. Motion passed unanimously.
4. Correspondence Received – Offerson (Chair) shared a letter from Fleis & VandenBrink Dive Team that offers underwater services to investigate potential structure issues.*
5. Reports from Staff and Officials
a. Sheridan Township Board – Fredrick reported the Township Board reviewed the latest Master Plan and identified additional edits are needed.
b. Zoning Administrator – Martin will provide his report at the next regular meeting.
c. Board of Appeals – One (1) appeal was denied regarding horses on acreage less than 5 acres.
6. Public Hearing
a. Purpose – To obtain public input and consider the following proposed Zoning Ordinance text amendments within the Township. The following is a summary outline of the proposed zoning ordinance changes. The full text of the amendments can be requested for viewing at the Sheridan township Offices during regular business hours.*
b. Discussion –
i. Offerson (Chair) questioned the height/max number of batteries that could be stacked. Lewan will follow up.
ii. Fredrick asked for clarity on the setbacks.
iii. Fredrick asked for additional information if a neutral party is responsible for the review every 5 years, and who is responsible for the expense. Lewan will follow up and have it added.
c. Public Comments -
i. None
d. Closed Public Comments
e. Motion - Frederick made a motion; Hanlon seconded to recommend the Proposed Zoning Ordinance amendments with the edits discussed, to the Sheridan Township Board. Roll call vote, passed unanimously.
f. Public Hearing Closed - 7:20
7. New Business
a. Master Plan – Review and discussion if the last requested edits were made. Martin will follow up with Lewan and check what was requested and if any additional updates are needed.
8. Reminder - our next regular scheduled meeting will be Thursday, February 6, 2025.
9. Adjournment – A motion was made by Frederick; seconded by Hanlon, to adjourn. Motion passed unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 7:30pm.
