Sheridan Township Board of Trustees Meeting
October 21, 2025
7:00 pm
I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Richard Porter at 7:00 pm.
The pledge of allegiance to the Flag of the United States: Led by Jack Williamson.
II. Present: Richard Porter, Scott Frederick, Rusty Smith, Hayley England and Stephanie Craig.
Absent: None.
III. Approval of Agenda: A motion was made by Rusty, 2nd by Scott accept the agenda as presented. All in favor, the motion passed.
V. Approval of previous township board minutes: A motion was made by Scott 2nd by Rusty to accept the September 16th meeting minutes as presented. All in favor, the motion passed.
VI. Payment of Bills: A motion was made by Rusty, 2nd by Scott to approve the payment of bills for September. Roll call vote; all in favor. The motion passed.
VII. Treasurers Report: A copy of the Treasurers report is provided for the board.
VIII. Correspondence:
1. Library Millage notice. The library millage rate is being renewed without changes.
2. Zoning and Planning for battery energy. The Zoning Administrator and Supervisor went to Coldwater to tour their battery storage facility.
IX. Committee Reports:
Planning Commission/Roads - Scott Frederick. There was a Planning meeting in August. The Planning Commission completed the Ordinance update project and have a copy to present to the Board at tonight’s meeting. There was a road meeting with the Road Director about a possible bond for the Township. The Township would like to see a 3-year project for the roads. We are waiting to hear back from the County about this.
Fire - Chief Lance Lohrke. Chief Lohrke goes over his report for September. Training for September covered water rescue and boom deployment. Chief Lohrke would like to hire an additional part-time firefighter, Mason Griffith. Congratulations to Tyler Collins who passed his command school, he was fourth in his class. They have decided that CPR classes will be $20 for medical staff or $40 for all others. The heart-saver class is a four-hour course. A motion was made by Rusty, 2nd by Scott to approve Chief Lohrke to hire Mason Griffith as a part-time firefighter.
Deputy - Jack Williamson. Deputy Williamson presents his report for September.
X. Public Comment:
Janet Cuatt commends the first responders of Sheridan Township and Calhoun County.
The residents of Twin Pines voice their concerns about the conditions of the trailer park.
Gary Tompkins makes a public comment. There is approximately a 3.6% increase in tax levy this year. There will be a scrap tire collection on Monday, October 27th in Tekonsha.

XII. New Business
1. Resolution 2025-15. A motion was made by Rusty, 2nd by Scott to approve Resolution 2025-15 Office Closure Dates for 2026. All in favor; the motion passed.
2. Decide payment options for invoice of 2025 Pictometry Aeriel Imagery. A motion was made by Rusty, 2nd by Scott to pay the invoice for 2025 Pictometry Aeriel Imagery in full. Roll call vote; all in favor. The motion passed.
3. Resolution 2025-16 to Approve recommended ordinance amendments. A motion was made by Rusty, 2nd by Stephanie to approve Resolution 2025-16 to approve the recommended ordinance amendments. Roll call vote; all in favor. The motion passed.
4. Schedule Special Board Workshop on 425. The Board will meet at a workshop at a later date to discuss the new 425 agreement.
XII. Adjourn: A motion was made by Hayley, 2nd by Stephanie, to adjourn at 8:04. All in favor, the motion passed.
