August 19, 2025 Board Meeting Minutes

Sheridan Township Board of Trustees Meeting

August 19, 2025

7:00 pm

 

I.          Call to Order:  The meeting was called to order by Richard Porter at 7:00 pm.

 

The pledge of allegiance to the Flag of the United States:  Led by Chief Lohrke.   

 

II.         Present:  Richard Porter, Scott Frederick, Rusty Smith, Hayley England and Stephanie Craig.

 

Absent:  None.

 

III.        Approval of Agenda:  A motion was made by Rusty, 2nd by Scott accept the agenda as presented with minor order changes.  All in favor, the motion passed. 

 

V.         Approval of previous township board minutes:  A motion was made by Scott, 2nd by Rusty to accept the June 17th meeting minutes as presented.  All in favor, the motion passed. 

 

VI.        Payment of Bills:  A motion was made by Rusty, 2nd by Scott to approve the payment of bills for June and July.  Roll call vote; all in favor.  The motion passed.

 

VII.       Treasurers Report:   Treasurers report is provided for the board.    

 

VIII.      Correspondence: 

 

1.         AEC website:  Albion Economic development is starting a web page.  They would like to know if we would like to partner with them.  A motion was made by Rusty, 2nd by Scott to agree to be a part of the Greater Albion News Website with the Supervisor acting as a liaison.  All in favor, the motion passed. 

 

2.         Parks Millage.  The County has additional funds available in 2026 for municipalities that have a project on the schedule.  The Supervisor will contact the County to see what funds are available. A motion was made by Rusty, 2nd by Scott to check into additional funding from the county.  Roll call vote; all in favor.  The motion passed.

 

IX.        Committee Reports:

 

Planning Commission/Roads - Scott Frederick.  The Planning Commission has been working on reviewing and updating the current Township ordinances and finalizing the Master Plan.


Fire - Chief Lance Lohrke.  Chief Lohrke goes over his reports for June and July.  Training for June covered ladders and training for July was search and rescue, and air management.  The Supervisor would like to see CPR classes available for the public to attend. 


Deputy - Jack Williamson.  The Supervisor presents Deputy Williamson's reports for June and July. 

 

X.         Public Comment:  Gary Tompkins gives an update on the senior millage.  Roadside mowing was slow to get to the east side of the county this year.  Going forward they will strategize on how to do a better job.  Gary will be meeting with the Supervisor to discuss the road bond. 

 

XI.        Unfinished Business:

           

1.      Continue review of recommended ordinance amendments.    

 

XII.       New Business

 

1.      Discuss 425, next steps.  Seth Koches updates the board on the discussions with the City about the 425 agreement.  The City would like the 425 properties to be developed for industrial purposes.  Seth would like to make sure that the Township benefits from any agreement made, and that the property would revert back to the Township at the end of any agreement made. Seth will talk to the City and get any additional information to the Township for the September meeting. 

 

2.      Resolution 2025-11 Approve Master Plan.  A motion was made by Rusty, 2nd by Scott to approve the Resolution 2025-11 approving the Master Plan.  Roll call vote; all in favor.  The motion passed.

 

3.      Resolution 2025-12 Adopt 2024 International Fire Code.  Replacing 1999 BOCA Code.  A motion was made by Rusty, 2nd by Scott to approve Resolution 2025-12 to adopt 2024 International Fire Code.  Roll call vote; all in favor.  The motion passed. 

 

4.      2024-2025 Audit Presentation by Scott McLane.  Scott McLane presents the 2024-2025 audit.    

 

5.      Discuss next steps road bond.  The Supervisor will meet with Gary Tompkins to discuss the next steps in attaining a road bond for the Township. 

 

XII.       Adjourn:  A motion was made by Hayley, 2nd by Stephanie, to adjourn at 8:14.  All in favor, the motion passed.
